Somehow when reading this story, a line from Family Guy came to my mind. It goes something like:

"Do you remember when I was asking you the other day what the definition of irony was?"

Snapper Improvements

It has been a while since the last post, and I noticed that the last few have all been video posts, so I will take this in a different direction.

What would you ("you" being Jason & Eric, since you are the only two on here) like to see added to the Snapper?

The one thing I have been meaning to get added would be a category/tag system for posts. Let me know what would be some helpful/useful upgrades.

Dreamhost you sneaky little...

So dreamhost went a head over the past few days and updated their rails to 2.0.2. Now, normally, they way I thought it was suppose to work by hosting your own gems locally, that you don't rely on what dreamhost does, it runs off your local gems.

For some reason, that is not the case. So that is why the S(n)apper has been down, it had to get upgraded to Rails 2.0.2. But we should be back and running strong!

Dream/Nightmare

I had this dream last night, well the content of the dream could classify it as a nightmare. But the dream consisted of us getting our new PC's for work, but they ended up being these:

Now if you are unfamiliar with this line of PC's, I will give you a quick run down. They are sold at Walmart and are meant to be a low budget PC. Along with these sweet PC's in my dream, we were all fitted with a 15" CRT.

I guess the dream was sparked by the phrase Sarah uttered which was, "They got a good deal!" Something about that statement has just been lingering around in my head. Because I think we all have experience what "good deals" have resulted around here in the IT departments.

Wii accessories getting better and better

Just when you thought you had seen all of the Wii accessories, comes the Trauma Center Kit. I mean seriously, is this what it is coming to, creating a specific accessory for each game that comes out?

I am still waiting for a post that highlights some nerd out there that is proud to own every Wii accessory ever made. And when that day happens, the S(n)apper will be here!

There is this house that is along side Cedar Avenue that goes all out with their Christmas lights. My girlfriend and I finally got around to taking a picture of it.

This puts the Griswold family to shame!

Christmas Lessons Learned

As this is being the first Christmas season that I have experienced with my Wii, I would like to share one very important lesson I learned last night.

My mom had dropped two of my Wii Remotes on her hardwood floor, and when I say dropped them, I mean dropped them hard. I never thought anything of it, seeing how I have been playing Guitar Hero III pretty much non-stop lately. Well I went to play some Zelda last night and picked up one of the remotes and tried playing. It's wouldn't track for crap. The cursor was all over the place. So I tried the second one with the same results.

Fearing that I have just lost 80 dollars to two broken remotes, I take to the internets. I do come across a forum where it talks about wiimotes that have been dropped and their IR sensor is out of whack. One guy mentions that he contacted Nintendo and they told him to fix it, you turn the wiimote upside down, and give it a few "love taps" to the back.

So here I am in the living room, slapping my wiimotes like red-headed step children with no success. I test my third wiimote that wasn't dropped, and it's doing the same thing.

Moral of the story, Christmas lights on a tree WILL in fact screw with the signal sent to the Wii. Turned off the lights, and whola, works perfect!

So in the process of trying to fix two "broken" remotes that we're not broken, I almost made them broken by beating them to within an inch of their lives! Lesson learned, in a test environment, always check the control element!

I really wish I had some more courage when it came to spending money, and some relaxed morales. I was at Walmart with my girlfriend not too long ago and they had three Wii's sitting there. I thought of buying all three to sell on EBay this x-mas season, but quickly played it off thinking they won't be as popular this year.

I was DEAD wrong. They are selling anywhere from 500-650 a piece right now! Of course this is just a crash course lesson on why I will be a broke developer for the rest of my life and not a "Donald Trump" of the world.

Welcome javadev feed readers

Since the fine folks at jroller.com have left us hanging out to dry; The Snapper on Rails has been kind enough to hammer us out our own little corner on the Internetz. Who knows how long http://jroller.com/javadev will be down. Anyone want to place a wager on it? My guess is eternity.

So, if you're really bored, you could watch the progress of the following Jira Issue and keep up to date on the nitty gritty details.

So, after basically becoming the laughing stock of the internets by getting three Microsoft Zune tattoos, this guy is now getting his name legally changed to "Microsoft Zune".

They best part is that one of his tattoos which simply reads "Welcome to the social" which WAS Zune's tagline, has now been nixed by Microsoft.

Dude, give it up, that product was DOA before it was released. It's a dead product and will never combat the popularity of the iPod.

For any of you that grew up on this movie, which would include me, you were probably as upset as I was that the game in the movie was never made into real life. Wait no longer. Some guy ported it into a replica arcade cabinet, identical to the one used in the movie.

You can also download a free executable copy of the game as well. Click the link to download the game:

Relationship advice from a Saudi Cleric

I don't even have to write much about this, just read the article. I couldn't help but think to myself that this has got to be a joke, but this is their lifestyle.

Best quote from the article:

"Unfortunately, many husbands beat their wives only when they get mad, and when they start beating, it as if they are punching a wall – they beat with their hands, right and left, and sometimes use their feet. Brother, it is a human being you are beating. This is forbidden. He must not do this."

That is almost on par for price as a standard DVD player. Very very tempting.

So the question stands, how do you spell Irony. Well, I would say that this article is a good way to spell it.

According to PC World's latest tests, if you are looking for a laptop that will run Windows Vista the best, look no farther than the Macbook Pro.

Is it just me, or are they starting to make USB drives out of the strangest stuff. Not only does it just look absolutely strange plugged into your computer, but it's also awkward to have to lug around with you.

Something tells me that if John was a serious golfer, this would be his #1 club.

Spice Up Your Wii Wrist Strap

I've seen a lot of accessories for the Wii in my day, some good, some bad. This might rate as one of the worst yet. I dream of the day I go to somebody's house and find that they have purchased one of these (Bucki)!

Hard Drive Dock

The hard drive dock. Now you can take your old hard drives, whether it be a 3.5" or 2.5" drive and simply stick it in the dock and it will instantly show up on your computer as a drive.

Perfect for getting some data off an old drive without having to crack the case of your computer.

Welcome to the Sapper 2.0

The sapper has been updated! The Sapper is now riding the rails, W00t W00t!

There is still a lot of functionality coming down the pipe, so stay tuned kids! The Snapper really enjoys rails, so much smoother than working with ASP! The Snapper however does not enjoy Capistrano! Very not HAWESOME, until it's installed and working properly!

Anyways, stop back often, many more additions coming soon!
